Why is Inverted Suspension Better for Carrying Stuff?
The more you carry on a tradition bike suspension fork, the worse it performs. This is because you're adding to the fork's unsprung weight. Simply put, this is the weight of the moving part of the fork that suspends upwards as you hit bumps, drops, and jumps.
In a traditional fork, most of the weight of the fork moves up and down. This is also the part of the fork absolutely necessary to attach racks and bags to. The more you weigh it down, the more mass that has to move up and down. As this weight increases, the bike becomes less and less fine-tuned to small bumps.
If you're carrying any kind of load on a traditional suspension fork, you will lose suspension compliance to small bumps, roots, and rocks... the kind of things that cause handling issues, wrist pain, shoulder aches, and back fatigue. Additionally, all your luggage is constantly moving up and down!
With an inverted fork, the lightest part of the fork is what moves up and down. Attach luggage to the fork, and the unsprung weight doesn't change. No luggage, 5lbs, or 30lbs of gear - it makes no difference - the unsprung weight remains the same either way keeping your fork stays buttery smooth as the wheel bobs up and down to the terrain, not your gear.
